Fred Titmus

I saw this fine autobiography in the pound shop, and felt compelled to purchase a copy so visiting Biscuit fans can have the pleasure of saying exactly what I did when I saw it sitting on the shelf.

Fred Titmus

I can’t say much about the book, except I just read the foreword by the implausibly named Stafford Hildred, which details Mr Titmus being falsely accused of stealing a sun lounger by Germans who shared their Majorca apartment complex, somewhat apropos of nothing. I’m not sure I was expecting anything more really.

Allegedly Fred was known for his ‘off spin’ but aspired to be a general ‘all rounder’. But after he lost four toes to a boat properller in Barbados in 1967, he was never going to play for England again. Despite that he took 111 wickets for Middlesex a few seasons later.

    He still had it.

I’ve actually read most of this now, and it’s not bad really, though it does stray into series of match stats territory at time. I’m just about up to the tour where he loses he toes.
