Guru @ Concorde 2

Phone PicBit late, but el Nim and I saw Guru at the C2 last Thursday. It was OK, but could have been much better.

1) Dear Concorde sound tech, distort-y bass = bad bass.

2) Turn down the music in the bar, and when the main acts are on turn it way down, or hey, off. You could easily hear the other system during the quieter bits of all the sets, and near the back it sounded pants.

The main problem though was the timing. As-If played a good set, and after a while a band set up (jazzy sort of live HH thing, I think DJ IQ and Skrein were in it, among others) who were very good. After a bit of a break Rup and someone else turned up to do a set, which again was good. Then, presumably because Guru hadn’t arrived, there was a massssive break, till about half two, during which they removed As-If’s decks so there wasn’t even any real DJing going on.

By the time Guru did eventually turn up the energy had just gone out of the room. Of the (really quite small) number of people that lasted the set out, most seemed to be having a good time, and it wasn’t a bad performance (even “super-producer” Solar was OK), but it would have been much better if it had been an hour earlier!
