The General Concern Society
I was browsing through my home directory on our much abused torrentmachine when I discovered a track of my own creating, from some time in the past. Entitled “A Letter To My MP”, from what I recall it’s creation was prompted by three things: Mr Stanyer and my feeling that “The General Concern Society” was a fine name, my slightly obsessive love for top BBC News 24 discussion programme Dateline|London*, and the fact I had a new synth.
Admittedly recording was hampered by taking place somewhat late at night, with only a headset mic for sonic perfection, and a strong streak of laziness that prevented doing more than one take for each part. Plus the gnawing concern about what my neighbours might think should they hear me singing Gavin Esler’s name at 3 in the morning.

As may be expected, this was the first and last recording of The GCS.
* Available on iplayer***, though not under the news category for some reason. It may be in a hidden category of “wonderful”, on it’s own.
** Ask yourself if you really want to be doing this
*** I have no idea why the guy on the intro picture on iplayer is not Gavin Esler. I think Gavin may have pissed of Peter Horrocks****.
**** Full Disclosure: This man probably isn’t Gavin’s boss, but I found him while wikipediaing News 24.
