The Amen Break

This is a video of Nate Harrison’s art installation, mostly a recording, which charts the history of six seconds of audio – the drum break from The Winston’s Amen Brother. It is a classic sample (which I have jacked myself, for a high quality rap track about Quake 3) used in loads of hip hop, jungle and d&b tracks, and Nate’s recording is a great look at it’s use and the effect of copyright law upon it (even if he is a bit mean about squarepusher). It’s a tad long, at just over 18 minutes, but well worth a watch (or realistically, a listen).
