Recycled Audio Footage

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

I’m not sure what it is about The Clipse I like so much but they’re genuinely one of my favourite groups. It’s more than just the spacey Neptunes beats or the razor sharp coke raps, though both are top draw, but there’s something about the way they throw out the dealer image that adds [...]

RIP Isaac Hayes

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

Though the BBC article noted he had 12 kids, that’s putting in work. Below is one of my favourite jawns off hot buttered soul, which is a helluva album.

New Soul

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

Fatlace linked up this AC video that samples New Soul (as wot is used on the mac air advert). I think the eminem/new soul mashup on Feed The Animals edges it in general, but this video is just class (and has a nice little sting at the end, Apple fans).

The ending was admittedly marred somewhat by them turning the sound off on Blaq Twang after his first track - if there was that hard a limit someone should have let [...]

Jay-Z Is Diplomacy

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Jay-Z’s appearance at Glastonbury has shown a diplomatic side to young hov that I don’t think has been fully revealed before. After Noel Gallagher made some disparaging comments about his headlining, he came back with a thoughtful and well worded response:
“We don’t play guitars, Noel, but hip hop has put in its work like any [...]

A photo with The Brother

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Saw Atmosphere (with Ant!) & Brother Ali at the Komedia last night, supported by Kidz in the Hall. KitH were good, but I don’t think many people there were familiar with them. I hadn’t heard any of their stuff before but it seemed not bad. Slug and Ali killed it though, the first half was [...]

The new Girl Talk album is out for ePurchase right now. It’s a choose your own price deal, pay over $10 and you get a physical CD when it comes out (for europe it’s $6 shipping). There individual files and continuous mix as well. All in all, a cracking deal!
